What to keep in mind before your visit!
The steps – get ready for a bit of a challenge. If you choose to go by road, you’ll need to descend about 400–500 steps from the parking lot to Preveli Beach. The descent is relatively easy, but the return trip requires good physical condition, especially on hot summer days. It’s a good idea to bring water, a hat, and comfortable shoes, as the climb can be tiring.
Strong winds in southern Rethymno. Southern Rethymno is famous for its strong winds. If a strong north wind is blowing, the sand at Preveli Beach can get kicked up and give your skin a natural “exfoliation.” Before you go, check the weather forecast. On days with mild weather, the experience is clearly more enjoyable, and the scenery looks even more breathtaking.
Important Information & Access.
Preveli Beach is located about 35 km from Rethymno. There are two main parking areas, with the main parking lot leading to the steps down to the beach. Alternatively, you can take a boat from Plakias or Agia Galini. The area is a protected site, so collecting plants or damaging the natural environment is prohibited.
